General Dentistry

Routine Dental Cleaning

We recommend patients receive routine dental cleanings at least twice a year, or more frequently if they are prone to decay or gum disease. During cleanings, our hygienist removes plaque and tartar from the teeth to reveal a brighter smile. We may also take x-rays during these appointments to determine if any issues are developing that can’t be seen during a visual exam.

Periodontal Disease

Many patients tend to overlook the symptoms of periodontal disease, which include swollen, bleeding, or inflamed gums. However, when left unaddressed, periodontal disease can cause tooth loss, and can contribute to other health conditions, such as stroke, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy complications, and even decreased life span.

Treatment depends on the severity of the condition. Mild gum disease, or gingivitis, can be controlled with regular cleanings. More advanced stages may require scaling and root planing, as well as more frequent cleanings. We refer patients with severe periodontal disease to periodontal specialists.

Endodontic Therapy (Root Canals)

When a tooth has suffered trauma or infection that has reached the nerve, creating significant pain, a root canal is necessary. This process, which helps prevent the need for an extraction, involves removing the infected pulp and eliminating bacteria inside of the tooth. Then, the tooth is filled with a medicated material to prevent further damage. Dr. Dell refers patients to endodontists for root canals. After the procedure, Dr. Dell will restore the tooth with a crown or filling to return it to its original strength, function, and appearance.

We can discuss nitrous oxide to determine if it is the right choice for you.

Tooth Filling in San Francisco, CA

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Rather than noticeable silver fillings, Dr. Dell uses tooth-colored fillings made of a composite resin that blends in with your smile. These fillings are virtually invisible and help to restore strength to a tooth after a cavity has been removed.

When you want a smile transformation, veneers are a great option. Veneers are thin, durable porcelain shells that are bonded onto the front of your existing teeth. They are custom-created to look natural in your smile and achieve your desired goals, whether they be to fix gaps, chips, cracks, stains or discolorations, or misshapen or crooked teeth.

When a tooth has been impacted by decay, breakage, infection, or bruxism (teeth grinding), a restoration is necessary to restore the tooth’s strength, function, and appearance. Restorations we perform include fillings, crowns and bridges, and dentures. We refer patients to specialists for dental implant placement and root canals.

Crowns & Bridges

A crown is a restoration that is placed over a tooth that has faced significant decay or breakage that can’t be resolved with a filling. The crown is a “cap” that covers the tooth and restores its function and appearance. It is custom-created to blend in seamlessly in your smile.

A bridge is a device used to replace missing teeth, therefore preventing complications such as teeth-shifting, jawbone deterioration, and difficulties speaking and eating properly. The bridge is permanently cemented to the teeth on either side of the gap, creating security and a natural look.

Teeth Whitening

Sometimes, brushing and flossing just aren’t enough to combat the discoloration effects of coffee, tea, smoking, aging, and other factors. Our teeth-whitening treatment can help you achieve a vibrant smile that is several shades whiter. Schedule a consultation with us today to learn more about teeth whitening!

Dental Technology

Laser Dentistry

We are proud to now offer laser dentistry! Laser technology helps make dental procedures more precise, efficient, and comfortable for our patients. It can be used to remove cavities, treat gum disease, whiten teeth, and more.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays expose patients to a fraction of the already low levels of radiation emitted by traditional x-rays. In addition, they produce images immediately; there’s no need to use dangerous chemicals and wait for film to develop. We view the images with you on a computer monitor and discuss your findings. The images can be saved, stored, and shared with your insurance company or a specialist if needed.
